Stainless Steel Storage Tanks: Composition and Grade:
A stainless steel tank is made from a low-carbon steel that contains chromium, which forms an invisible, corrosion-resistant chromium oxide film on the surface. The tanks are also treated with a cleaner and passivation solution to remove embedded carbon steel contaminants and restore the oxidized surface.
The various grades of steel are used to resist corrosion from water, chlorine, acid and alkaline solutions, and chemicals. High-alloyed grades have heightened fire and heat resistance.
